I can't believe how fast the summer has gone. I have never given myself this kind of a break before. Any worries I had about potentially getting bored with this much time off, were quickly gone. I wish I could extend it until the end of the year. It would be wonderful to watch the season change and welcome the first snow of the year up here on the mountain. But I guess that is not to be. It's time to leave my little cocoon and go back to the real world, go back to work.
It has been a time of reflection and a great opportunity to recharge. I just can't believe how fast the time flew. I've only known a couple of people that work for companies that actually offer sabbaticals as part of their employee package. It should be many more. I realize there is a significant cost to companies to give an employee that much extended time off. However, in the long run, I think the cost would pan out. I believe it would increase retention rate and overall productivity.
It has been an amazing summer for me and something I hope to do again in the future! Now I have to worry about how the dogs are going to adjust to my going back to work. They've grown used to having me around all the time and I've enjoyed spending all day with them.
"You're getting older. Your journey's been etched on your skin." James Blunt & Mark Batson, 1973, All the Lost Souls. The first time I heard this song, it made me stop and think about my life and my own journey. What all has been etched on my skin? What is still waiting to be etched? This blog is about the Traveling Hillbilly's journey. Please travel along and share your own journey. There's no better way to learn about life, about others, about ourselves, than by traveling the globe.

And just like that, the Summer Sabbatical Ends
